| On Friday, August 7th, at 7:18 pm, Montrose Ladder Tower 8 was requested to Ossining for coverage while the Ossining Fire Department and other mutual aid agencies responded to a large structure fire on Hawkes Avenue. A crew of eight members from Ladder Tower 8 was stationed at Ossining’s State Street firehouse alongside Engine 80 from Tarrytown.
During the coverage, the units were dispatched to a residence for an outside smoke investigation. The smoke was determined to be related to the original fire incident. At 8:22 pm, while returning to the Ossining firehouse, Ladder Tower 8 and its crew were re-directed to the fire scene on Hawkes Avenue as the incident escalated to a fourth alarm.
The crew was immediately assigned to exterior ventilation, clearing all second floor windows on the A and B sides of the structure. After regrouping, the ladder was positioned on the B side, and water was supplied from Ossining Engine 99 to deliver a significant amount of water onto the building.
Crews remained on scene until approximately 4:30 am before being released by command. Each unit displayed efficient teamwork and coordination during the response. The Ossining Incident Command Team and the Westchester DES Field Communication Unit managed the situation effectively.
While operating at the fire scene with the ladder, crews remaining in their home district covered three calls related to the storm that passed through the area.
