Are you looking for a way to make a real impact in your community? The Cortlandt Engine Company and Montrose Fire District are seeking committed individuals who want to serve their neighbors, help maintain public safety, and belong to a dedicated team. Whether you are interested in giving back, finding camaraderie, or developing new skills, there is a place for you.

Who Are We?:

We are the Montrose Fire District and the Cortlandt Engine Company #1, united by one team, one goal, and one purpose: to volunteer our time and support the community we serve.

Our two organizations operate together for the same mission. When you join as a volunteer firefighter, you become an active member of the Cortlandt Engine Company #1, and upon approval, you serve as an active firefighter within the Montrose Fire District. The Cortlandt Engine Company supplies personnel for fire safety operations within the Montrose Fire District.

The Montrose Fire District includes three fire district and responds to approximately 300 calls each year. We operate with two engines, one tower ladder, one heavy rescue vehicle, one mini attack vehicle, and two utility vehicles.

Training:

All equipment and training are provided to volunteers at no cost. Training begins with an in-house overview of daily operations and on-scene tactics. Once comfortable, volunteers can advance to New York State courses such as Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations, which cover safety practices for fires outside of any structure. Additional courses like Interior Firefighting Operations which cover safety practices for fires inside of any structures. Our Fire Police Unit consists of certified New York State Peace Officers upon completion of the NYS Fire Police Course. Fire Police members support scene safety and manage traffic control during every fire incidents. There is an opportunity for everyone, with roles ranging from Fire Police, Exterior Firefighters, Apparatus and Pump Operator, and Interior Firefighters.

Our Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP) offers recognition and financial benefits to volunteers for their years of service. Members may also qualify for college tuition reimbursement through programs such as FASNY Scholarships and Westchester County HERRO, along with a 10% reduction on property and school taxes.

Stay Fit and Prepared:
Members have access to a fitness room on site to stay fit for emergency response and personal wellness.

Effective December 2, 2014 New York State Executive Law 837-o Requires that each Fire Company must submit a non fingerpring background check to NYS DCJS  for any individuals seeking membership in a Volunteer Fire Department. This form can either be filled out and submitted with your application or filled out on the day of your interview.
