Covering The District

By Deputy Chief Scott Gilbert
April 16, 2026

On Wednesday night, one of our crews was on overnight standby protecting the district and handling any alarms but that’s just part of the story.

Some members took the opportunity to attend an Incident Safety Officer class hosted at our HQ’s with instructors from Westchester County, while others were getting the station cleaned and ready for the overnight. Once everyone was back, the crew went to work. checking apparatus, washing trucks, reviewing tools, and calibrating our gas meters to make sure everything was ready to go.

At 1:39 AM, we were dispatched for wires down and burning in the district. Crews were out the door quickly, handled the scene efficiently, and stood by for Con Edison to arrive.

After the call, it was right back to standby until 6 AM at which time many of these members headed straight to their regular jobs.

This is just a glimpse of the dedication our firefighters show every day. Proud of this crew and thankful for their continued commitment to our department and community. 🚒
