With the arrival of Daylight Saving Time, remember to check and update any clocks in your home that do not automatically reset. This is also an excellent opportunity to pay attention to your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, which are vital for your safety.

If your detectors were purchased in New York State after April 1, 2019, they should contain a sealed battery with a 10-year lifespan. Detectors purchased before this date, online, or outside New York State may still require regular battery changes. For these units, the batteries should be replaced every six months. If your detector is older then 10 years we ask that you properly discard the unit and purchase a new one.

Whether you have a sealed unit or one with a replaceable battery, we encourage you to safely test your devices to ensure they are working correctly. If your detectors are connected to an alarm system, please contact your alarm company to learn the proper way to test them and to avoid any accidental emergency dispatches.

Since Daylight Saving Time gives you an extra hour today, use a few minutes to discuss fire safety with your family. Review the importance of fire prevention, practice your Exit Drills In The Home (E.D.I.T.H.), and make sure everyone knows your family's designated meeting point in case of emergency.

If you have any questions or concerns on fire safety or even becoming a part of our team please feel free to reach out to us at info@montrosefire.com, we will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
